Walking naked down a busy street on a cold day
Have you ever walked down a busy street completely naked on a cold day?
Me either.
But I’ve done something similar.
I’ve trusted someone.
Trust is hard. It’s scary. It makes you feel a lot like you’re walking down a busy street completely naked on a cold day.
When you open up and trust someone, you give them permission to know your junk. You allow them to see the deep, dark, oft-hidden secrets no one else gets to see. You give them access to things that could completely crush you and hope to God they don’t actually do that.
In the end, even though it’s terrifying, choosing to trust is a lot better than the opposite: loneliness.
You walk by yourself when you keep things bottled up. Sure, it’s safer, easier, and a lot less scary. It’s also extremely lonely.
You have a choice to make:
Would you rather be terrified with other people or comfortable by yourself?
Take a chance.
Let others in.
Walk down the busy street completely naked on a cold day.
Trust.
Say your prayers and take your vitamins.
Have a nice day.
