FUEL Recap 2/2/2011
Series: Best Sex Ever
Mixer/Game: Pedometer Headbands
Extra fun things: We introduced what we’re calling the Freedom 4/24 Challenge. For $24, a student can buy a girl out of sexual slavery for 24 hours. We’ve challenged our students to bring in $6 for the next four weeks. We’re spending five weeks talking about the choices we can make about sex and dating but there are girls around the world their age that aren’t allowed to make the choices and are forced to do things that are just wrong.
We’ve also started a Formspring for this series. Students can go to that page and ask any question they may have completely anonymously. We’re going to be picking the best questions and putting a video answer onto Facebook every day and we’ll answer other ones on the website.
Worship Set: Our God Is Love (Hillsong), Your Love Never Fails (Jesus Culture), Give Me Faith (Elevation Worship), Forever Reign (Hillsong)

Topic: What The Bible Says About Sex
Scripture: Genesis 1:28, 31; Proverbs 5:18-19; 1 Corinthians 7:2-5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; 1 Corinthians 6:18; 1 Corinthians 10:30
Thoughts: All you need to know about the craziness that was FUEL last night is that seven seconds into the talk (yes, I listened to the recording) a 14-year-old girl just yelled out the word “sex” as loud as she could.
The whole night, from the leaders meeting at six to when kids got there at 6:30 had an energy to it that we haven’t had in a while. Part of it was because we have been out of our normal routine for two months and last night was the first night to really get back in the groove of things. The other part, and the bigger part, was the excitement that’s been created about the series that we’re doing (Best Sex Ever).
For me, there was excitement because we were debuting our new lights and I’ve been working really hard to get them looking good. For me and Chris there was excitement because we’d been planning for this series since November and it was finally here.
It wasn’t a perfect night but we were pretty much glitch free the entire night. The game was very entertaining, the worship band killed it (I’m actually listening to the recording of them as I type this), and Chris’s teaching was funny, awkward, and spot on to what needed to be taught. He hit it dead on and it wouldn’t be a waste of time to listen to it.
My favorite part of the night was the response to the Freedom 4/24 Challenge. We aren’t collecting money until next week but I had probably 10 kids ask if they could give money right on the spot. I had two girls ask me if there was anything they could do in addition to donating money. One of my freshmen said he’s going to bring $24 each week. A couple girls asked where they can buy t-shirts. One of our leaders is a teacher and he’s going to mention it to all of his students (180+). We gave out every single sticker that we had with some kids taking 2-3 of them. Our parking lot next week is going to be full with cars that have Freedom 4/24 stickers on them.
Sometimes God gives you a passion and a desire to do something and you’re not really sure why or how it’s going to work out. A couple months ago I had the idea to do this challenge with our students. I wasn’t sure if Chris would like it or not but when I presented it to him he loved it. I wasn’t sure how the students would respond to it but they bought into it right away. I wasn’t sure if it would be asking too much of our students but they’ve committed to it and more.
God’s bigger than me. The fact that he chose to use me to do his work still blows my mind and I’m incredibly thankful for it. I’m excited for the rest of this series. I’m especially excited to teach next week. I’m looking forward to seeing our kids step up and be Jesus to some teenaged girls in Thailand. Through the goofing off and the awkwardness and all the fun that we’re having with this series, I’m convinced that God is going to speak to our kids and move in a really powerful way through this series.
Afterall, God wants us to have the Best Sex Ever.
